Japan in 11 days! Fast trains, cat coffee houses, temples, shrines - Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima
A 11 day trip to Japan to see my daughter who is working out there and explore Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima. See the sights and the life styles. Travel by Bullet trains, taxis and underground. Cycle tours and walking. A great trip which I hope you will enjoy. No music just a bit of talking. Filmed using the Sony A7 R IV with a G master 16-35mm 2.8 lens, for those interested. Edited on an iPad pro using Luma. Filmed in 4k.

Great video , really enjoyed it 😊
That is great to hear, thanks. One day I might get around to doing another video. Stopped cruising after going on about 25 in the space of 8 years. Currently making trips to Tenerife, Austria and Finland so maybe I'll do a video of them.
*SHIP not ‘boat’ 😂
i agree
Hi, I know this is an old video, but I watched this video and the video of Hong Kong with your daughter 6 years ago. There is a huge difference in video quality and "feeling" of the video. I definitely prefer the one 6 years ago in Hong Kong. The video there looked vibrant and much more detailed. Unlike the video in this video looks washed out and not too detailed. Is it the lens? I noticed that this lens is a f2.8 lens while the one in Hong Kong was an f4. Could it be that or the different Sony camera (which I do not think Sony would degrade the camera like that)? Can it be the way you color-graded the video? It just seems that something is off and the newer camera/video is not as good as the spectacular video everyone was raving about in your Hong Kong video. What do you think?
First thank you for taking the time to view both videos and comment. From a technical perspective the older video was filmed with a Sony A7R II and the newer one the Sony A7R IV. The older lens was only F4 and the newer one a much more expensive Gmaster F2.8. If everything else was the same you and I might expect the later technology and the more expensive lens to be better. When I first viewed the Japan video, fter your comment, youtube showed me a poor quality low resolution version - I had to manually change my settings on the video for quality to request the 4k version. Then the two videos looked the same to me on my pc. The Japan video was edited on an iPad and I wonder if the "bit rate" of the edited version was 1) lower than it was recorded at 2) lower than the Hong Kong one was uploaded in. Both the A7R ii and A7 R IV are not primarily video cameras, one having a 40mb sensor and the other a 60mb one. Also as the Gmaster lens was wider angle so the Camera was often put into APSc format to introduce a 1.5 crop and make the lens have a longer reach. I will revisit the Japan one when back in the UK and see if I can see the difference on a TV. I could re-edit using a higher bit rate maybe on davinci resolve but it takes so much effort. Try changing your quality setting as you may have been shown a lower resolution version like I was. Thanks again for the comments.
@@ourtvchannel I watched both at 4K and 1080p, and there is definitely a difference. What frame rate did you record each video? 30 or 24? There is definitely more of a cinematic look to the Hong Kong video. In either case, I can attest to the viewer's comments that it was an entertaining video that I watched to the end. Hong Kong is very beautiful.
@@sun-eye I don't remember I am in Tenerife but will look when back in the uk next week. Glad you enjoyed Hong Kong video have a look at the cruise video around europe here ua-cam.com/video/MIpjKKEo--w/v-deo.html
@@ourtvchannel I did watch that along with the Hong Kong video and once again, the colors and details are amazing! The video makes the skies and the interior of the ship look amazing! I just can't get it why it looks sooo much better than the video from Japan. It's like everything was so vibrant and beautiful.
@@sun-eye Well i will investigate, it would be ironic that my oldest camera and lens is better than my newer ones. I have new sony ze1 and a A7 R V - lets hope they do a good job.
The ship is getting old and boring for all 3 ships. Just came back from 16 days Cunard. It degraded a lot. food quality and quantity BAD, no lobster. especially at the Lido. Super short handed. It is at the Carnival cruise style. No dance host, no queens room Hostess, no professional dancer exhibition, etc. will not recommend for this price (we are Diamond on Cunard, not a newbie)
I haven't cruised for about 4 years but sad if it's not as good as it was. We have done about 25 cruises and always found Cunard were the best.
No sub-titles I could NOT understand what was being said with crowd noise interfering 😡
"Boat"? Honestly... dumb Britain.
Enjoyed your merry quips, especially the one about the inside cabin guests paddling furiously in their canoes back to the ship, very droll, have some pity on the poor troglodytes, you have a soothing voice, would have been nice to have seen you, maybe you can get Lisa to film you, the tiny photo does not do you justice, I await many more of these sojourns
Thanks LInda, it always makes my day when someone says they like the video. Lisa is a far better subject than me, maybe in a future video I'll pluck up the courage to be on film. I have some more video from previous cruises which I haven't put up as not so good quality. Maybe I'll revisit them. I have a video of Hong Kong here that you may like , ps. I have a brief appearance in that one - ua-cam.com/video/eZAto25Mbk4/v-deo.html
Great video and "Lisa" is just lovely.
Thanks Bernadette, yes she is and Lisa says thank you very much. Glad you liked the video, one day I might put another cruise video up when I get the time to edit it - I have a few unedited videos from past years that I might put on UA-cam but for obvious reasons new cruising videos are a long way off I think.
an excellent video ruined by two seconds @11:30. the golden arches. really? you need to have a word with your video editor.
I wish sometimes you pass by a mirror so we can see where that poshy voice is coming from..... lol
I am sure it would be disappointing if I did.
Love the video.. I hope you do many more....
Thanks Frank, we have done about 25 cruises since 2010 and have seen most places in Europe and Scandinavia plus the Caribbean. I am not sure when the world will return to normal, another cruise does seem along way off at the moment. Really glad you liked the video.
Good times!
Yes you never know how lucky you are until something like this comes along. I doubt there will be many cruises next year sadly.
@@ourtvchannel yes indeed, this year has shown us how lucky we are and we shouldn’t take everything for granted. Cruising is not looking too good.
@@keiserious Yes that is an understatement. I expect cruising won't resume until a working and safe vaccine has been found. Then I expect only those with either proof of vaccine taken or a very recent virus test will be allowed on the boat. Thinking more about it , I think the vaccine will be the only safe approach given the multiple ports visited in multiple countries.
@@ourtvchannel true, vaccine will be the key factor for those who wish to go on these cruises as you stated there many ports.
The coverage of the Queen Victoria and your experiences at the various ports is truly appreciated. The journey has inspired us to follow in your footsteps. With gratitude.
Thank you very much. I am not sure when cruising will return but when it does I can recommend the Queen Victoria
It’s not a “boat”. It is a “ship”.
Well I will remember that next time
As a professional voice over, I could put work your way. Have you cruised since? Was it stuck up on board Cunard? Did folk look down on you?
Thanks for the offer of work I take that as a compliment. I don't currently need any work but if the world falls apart maybe one day. I have been on about 25 cruises in the last ten years but none for 2 years. Decided to have a break as we have been to Norway 5 times, around the med countless times, Caribbean and various short cruises. Obviously cruising is going to be a major problem for a long time to come. Having had the virus myself I am in no hurry to have it again ( if possible ). No one ever looked down on us , why should they? We always meet a complete random selection of people on most cruises. Some mega rich people are often the most modest people you'll meet and often those with limited reasons to show off never stop. Overall the people on cruises are very nice people but choose the cruise line that reflects your character. Cunard is our favourite, quiet and quality. If you have children they'll not like it. P & O are a real mix of people , much more life on board and younger clients. Princess are in between Cunard and P & O. Hope that helps.
Some amazing video views and vistas...too bad the audio was so fucked-up I couldn't hear much of anything.
I agree the audio could be better but carrying a big camera on a holiday is bad enough, adding a good microphone would ruin the holiday but I will look for a small one.
@@ourtvchannel Maybe just use a written description of what is on screen or add a subtitle tract of the audio. Very nice travelogue, however, despite this shortcoming.
Thank you for your prompt reply and we wondered what your decision was regarding an inside cabin, we have booked a balcony but for further cruises we were very curious
Yes I should have replied in the video to that open question. For me the inside is perfect, complete blackout so I get a good nights sleep but my wife prefers the balcony for the benefits of having your own space to sit outside. As the Cunard ships are hardly busy outside I find the balconies a complete waste of money. The outside cabins are a good compromise offering great rooms and a view often at little more than the inside ones. So my wife is "happy" to go with an outside but not an inside. I think on Cunard, the inside cabins offer everything at almost half the price and for me, who just sleeps in the cabin, make perfect sense.
Your video was extremely useful and interesting and we wondered if you cruise a lot?
Thank you very much I am glad you enjoyed it. After going on about 25 cruises from 2010 We found that we had visited most of the ports in Europe and Norway multiple times. We have been to Tenerife a lot over the past year, the weather is glorious whatever time of the year, there some great 5 star hotels too so it is appealing but not really interesting for videos. But.... I have just come back from 11 day in Japan so if you subscribe and click the bell icon you will be alerted when I put up the Japan visit video. which I hope people will like. It includes Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto so very different from Europe.
What a "matter of sorts" commentary! I don't know why you should include the Queen Elizabeth Liner in the title of your video. More like a tour guide's visit to Rome
Well first it's a cruise, second I don't think "Queen Elizabeth" does appear in the title - "Queen Victoria" yes.
Great to watch😎
Thanks Christopher! Glad you enjoyed it. One of these days I might get around to doing another one.
It kinda looks like a ghost ship being empty. I’m told they are very strict with dress code. And depending on type of accommodation will depict where you can eat. Is that true?
It is never busy on the ship and you'll always find a place to sit and have a coffee. It doesn't feel empty but I agree it looks like it in the video. Yes they do like you to be smart casual in the evenings and very smart on formal evenings of which there are usually two a week. Yes there are few places to eat that are hidden on floors you can't get to for people who pay a fortune for a cabin. Having been on at least 15 Cunard cruises I can say you'll never know they exist. The ship is vast and full of places you can eat and all are excellent.
My favourite ship is Britannia, however Oceana is P&O’s most beautiful ship by far, it just looks so elegant from every angle.
Never been on the Britannia but my wife has and she says it is excellent.
Stop calling a “Ship” a boat.....
ok thanks for that
Are you still cruising? Not seen anything new
Still cruising but haven't filmed anything recently which is a shame. I will look at some of my older videos which I haven't put up. With a bit of editing they might be interesting. Thanks for asking.
Do you mind me asking the cost?
1300 GB Pounds, 1650 Dollars, 1450 Euro each. That is for the inside cabin we had for this 14 night cruise, a total bargain I think. We usually have a balcony, which would have cost about 40% more, I personally would always have an inside but my wife loves balconies so that is what we get. GB Pounds at 2016, converted prices in Nov 2018. Today I think the prices are about 10% more but when you think what you get it is an amazing bargain.
+ourtvchannel Thank you for the information. I believe that USA cruises, although much cheaper, cannot be booked by Brits, or perhaps at an inflated cost? Some of those ships look amazing on UA-cam with rock climbing and the like. So unsure which way to go on this. l expect all your connections to the sites were included in that price?
Where are all the people? Very quiet cruise imo.
Good question, most Cunard cruises are like this and it's why we like them. You do see the people around but it's never busy. Cunard have less passengers for the size of the ship compared to other cruise lines.
Were on azura this Xmas(first time on it).....bet its no where as good as oceana
Been on the Ventura , it's sister ship. In some ways it's more modern but given the choice I'd go on the Oceana although I am sure you'll love it.
Love the Oceans....been on it four times!!!
Yes we have been on it even more times. It's old and in need of replacing but it's still a lovely ship with excellent service. We have been on it twice this year. Our favorite is Cunard but they don't do enough 1 week med cruises for us.
Did a cruise this year on this ship I loved it great ship would love to cruise on it again 🇦🇺🚢
Yes we were on it last week! It's a bit old but it is very nice all the same
Great video....actually superb is more appropriate. I do have a couple of questions. Are there any drinks packages one can buy? Are soft drinks, teas and coffees complimentary or are you charged? How was the food in the buffet?
Thanks that made my day. There are non alcoholic drinks packages you can buy. You can get free coffee and tea but there are also options to have the best coffee in a package of ten. Unlimited soft drinks packages too. The buffet is excellent. To be honest Cunard, in our experience, are the best. We have been on about 30 cruises in 8 years so we have tried a few.
ourtvchannel Thanks for the prompt reply! How long did it take you to get to Pisa? Did you do it on your own or did you pay for an excursion? There's so little time and it is at some distance. Please keep on making more videos and may your health allow you to enjoy many more cruises in your golden years!
Great video. Going on our second cruise on Oceana in September. Lovely ship.
Thanks! We are going on Oceana in September too!
Loved your video. Thanks for posting it.
Shirley Smith it always makes my day when someone likes a video I have done, thank you for saying so.
Interesting video. It`s a shame the voice-over can`t be heard. Maybe try captions next time.
Sussex Flyer odd you can't hear the voice over if you check out the comments here you'll see it might be you that has the problem.
It's not a boat, it's a ship
Snuggy 61 thanks
The ship looked empty & kind of spooky
Yes one of the reasons we like Cunard. Over 2000 passengers on that ship and you and I can both see no crowds. That is definitely not true of all Cruise lines.
As per most of the comments - I enjoyed your video - and really appreciated the depth you went too - am most interested in what you thought of the inside cabin though? Also, what video camera would you recommend - has the sony you used been updated? It gave very great clarity. Kind Regards, Gary (Australia)
Hi Gary, well I loved the inside cabin, it was small but how big does a room need to be if you are just sleeping in it? I got the best sleep ever due to it's total light black out .... but my wife didn't like it. :( she prefers the balconies or outside cabin which are bigger as well as having views ) I am happy to pay a bit extra for the outside but the balcony is just a waste of money for me. That said we can afford the balconies so I always lose the argument. The camera is stunning I agree. It is a Sony A7R II which has been replaced with the A7R III which I also own. It is even more amazing. It's very expensive but they have just released the A7 III - it is even better than the camera I used for this video and almost at good for stills as the A7R II. If I were looking for the quality of this video or better and mega high resolution stills were not my priority then there is no better choice than the A7 III just out. It is still not cheap though. Thanks for liking the video.
One last question - it looked like the ship berthed within walking distance of each port? Thank you again.
Yes we choose cruises which go to ports where you can just walk off and enjoy the local area. it saves on the excursion costs which often offer nothing more than the local port. Of course Rome, Pisa and Florence are the exceptions. For those go on the "Rome on your" own type of trips as you don't need anything more than the transport.
What a lovely video - - thank you so much for posting this! Cheers.
Thank you for taking the time to view it and to write a nice comment.
Fantastic presentation thank you for all your hard work putting this together 😀
Thanks Joanne, glad you liked it. One of these days I'll do a few more.
"It's not often you see a moat and a goat at the same time..." - Brilliant! Great video and beautiful talking!
Fantastic , thank you for taking the time to comment and glad you liked the video. Must do another one soon.
As a Voice Over, I can tell you, you have a voice that could earn money
Hi Nicole ! Thank you so much. That made my day!
I enjoyed your video, but the audio completely overwhelmed the commentary and irritated my ears quite a bit. I struggled to hear you at times which forced me to end the video early. I am hoping you can make some changes in the audio background with other videos . Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, it is difficult to talk out loud when walking around without people thinking you are mad. I could add comments after the event but I feel it would not be what I was thinking at the time. I will look at audio options.
This is one of the best amateur travel videos I've ever seen. The photographer and his wife are what most tourist couples would like to be but seldom are.
Thank you very much for that comment! It got me out of bed to write a reply I was so amazed. Glad you liked the video.
At the start of the video you refer to the Queen Victoria as a "Cunard Boat"? She's a ship! old chap.
Hey less of the old, I'll call it a ship for the next video, but I doubt you were confused , boat / ship , not that ambiguous.
Nice video, great taste of what to expect. Audio sometimes overwhelms the commentary, but I like the unpretentious commentary and we didn't have to suffer someone who fancies themselves in front of the camera. Well done.

saw the Queen Victoria huge monster ship in Rhodes july 2017... it was just huge....
Yes but there are a lot larger cruise liners, Royal Caribbean cruise ships are often double the tonnage
Could we have the name of the town visited before Venice?.
